143 metres to the summit, this volcanic peak affords superb views of the Hauraki Gulf, Rangitoto and the city skyline. Begin your climb 500 metres away, at the end of MacMurray Road.
Walk down Middleton Road to this popular sports field and walking/running area. Mangroves line the shore, giving the park an open, parkland feel. Popular with off leash dog walkers.
A lesser known walking area that runs parallel to Middleton Road. Links to the charming, wooded Ayr Street Reserve which leads to Auckland Cathedral and Parnell.
This city centerpiece encompasses 75ha of sports fields, woodland and amenities that include the Auckland Museum, Wintergarden, duck ponds and band rotunda. Walk up Alpers Road, turn right at Gillies Avenue before taking Seccombes Road to Mountain Road.
A more challenging walk, but the rewards are many. Take St Marks Road and Alpers Ave to Withiel Thomas Park, which connects to the Mt Eden Domain. Spectacular views to the south and over the city.
A big loop with plenty of flat walking…but enough hill work to let you know you’ve been on a walk. Views, and two or three convenient places to stop for coffee.
Why not? Make your way to Mountain Road, head towards the domain and continue down Park Road before walking over the Grafton Bridge. How long? 25 minutes at a clip.
